Do fogo que em mim arde: experiências e epistemologias de mulheres negras em Pelotas/RS

Abstract

This ethnography seeks to reflect on the trajectories, knowledge, resistance practices and circulatory experiences of black women in Pelotas/RS, starting from three main interlocutors, who are references in city’s culture, activism and knowledge of griot. With discussions on the intersectionality between gender, race, class and studies based on black feminisms, this ethnography addresses the experiences with the interlocutors, understanding that these experiences generate knowledge production and networks of affection, resistance and solidarity among black women. Ernestina Pereira, in the field of political and union activism; Maria Baptista, in the construction of the drum instrument called 'Sopapo', and relationship with carnival drums, and Sirley Amaro, as master griot, seamstress, carnival artist and storyteller - are inserted as important voices and living trajectories of memory, struggle and knowledge of female diaspora. The work seeks, therefore, to apprehend and understand how expressions of black diasporas, from a female perspective, resonate in one of the places that make up the complex sociocultural system of the Black Atlantic: the southern region of Brazil.
