Considerações sobre bilinguismo, políticas linguísticas e identidades: o caso de uma família brasileira nipodescendente

Abstract

This research aims to discuss and analyze issues related to Bilingualism and Linguistic Policies in a Brazilian family of Japanese descendants, based on the theoretical contribution on Bilingualism (MOZZILLO, 2001; SPINASSÉ, 2006; PUPP PINASSÉ and MOZZILLO, 2021), Code-Switching (GROSJEAN, 1984; MOZZILLO DE MOURA, 1997), Heritage Language (VALDÉS, 2001; VAN DEUSEN-SCHOLL, 2003; MORONI, 2018) and Language Policies (CALVET, 2007; SPOLSKY, 2016). Also, the research focus on contribute to other investigations (MOTA, 2004; LICO, 2011; SOUZA, 2015; YONAHA, 2016; MORONI, 2018), whose objectives are to discuss and analyze the use and transmission of Portuguese as a Heritage Language and the processes of construction and constitution of Brazilian identities abroad. Data collection was performed from semi-structured interviews and data analysis was based on qualitative-interpretative assumptions (ERICKSON, 1985; 1991). The data suggests a positive attitude with the Portuguese and Japanese in the family environment, in view of the strong family connection maintained with Japan and Brazil. From language planning, they put into practice the explicit policy of using the Portuguese even while residing in Japan. A very diverse linguistic path was perceived in the family - from passive to balanced bilinguals - although, according to Mozzillo's (2001) classification, they are all considered bilingual at different levels.
