A historiografia das interações greco-sícelas, do século VIII ao V : novas identidades no mundo políade ocidental?

Abstract

This paper discusses how relations between the Greeks and the sikeloi were drawed in ancient Greek historiography. The discussion is limited to the time period between the foundation of the first Greek settlements in Sicily and the latest Athenians operations on the island - the centuries VIII V BCE. We examine the problems of historiographical representation plus some questions posed by Archaeology. We also address the limits of the use of literary sources and of the Archaeology to represent antiquity. And we debate the current judgment about the historiography of the nineteenth century production about ancient times and on XIXth’s proposition and perception of historical problems of that distant age . We expose - in hypothetical character - the problem of construction and perception of a new ethnocultural identity in Sicily.
