Museus e colecionismo: sentidos e processos no acervo do Museu de Arte Leopoldo Gotuzzo

Abstract

This research was dedicated to the field of meanings and processes involving collections, transiting in the relationship between museums and collecting and the practices of collecting and musealizing. It takes as its object the collections of Leopoldo Gotuzzo Museum of Art (MALG), linked to the Arts Center (CA) of the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel), seeking its intricacies that reflect social relations and disputes within the scope of memory, legitimacy, of prestige and distinction. In this sense, it seeks to identify the meanings and meanings involved in the MALG collections and how they are reflected in Museum’s performance. Thus, it discusses the relationships between museums, collections, and memory, with special attention to the artistic and university environments, as well as the local context of the city of Pelotas, from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. The reflection is also based on data collected from the MALG archives, whether of an internal order of the institution, produced by the museum team, (minutes, invitations and photographic records of exhibitions, newspaper reports, reports, collection files, terms of donation, logbook of works of art) as of external order, relating to the press. As a result, suggestions are listed for the preparation of the MALG Acquisition and Disposal Policy, as well as the reorganization of its collections taking into account the history of each one.
