Rio Grande kaos: história e memórias do Movimento Punk da cidade de Rio Grande/RS (1980 – 1999)

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the presence of the Punk movement in the city of Rio Grande/RS and how it reverberated in the cultural conformation of the same from the protagonists of the time. The present work brings reflections on the formation of identities, the cultural diversity that Punk carries with it, in addition to the forms of resistance that manifested themselves within the movement, whether artistic or political. It also brings reflections about the movement and its impacts on individuals and on the society in question. The methodology used prioritized interviews with people involved directly or indirectly with the process of the emergence of this manifestation and/or who acted while belonging to the Punk movement. These people collaborated with their memories to reconstruct through their present narratives not only the action of the Punks in the city, but also to fill gaps in the cultural history of Rio Grande in the 1980s and 1990s and to expose the various perspectives in which the movement can be seen and interpreted today. The research presented here becomes relevant for being at the core of contemporary discussions that touch on memory and cultural history, to reflect in a deeper way on the importance of cultural manifestations to understand the social dynamics of a city: in this case, Rio Grande. The results obtained broaden the knowledge about the cultural environment of the city in the period, while contributing to a better perception of the Punk movement and its manifestations through the different perceptions for those who lived it.
