Espaço social: uma análise metodológica do patrimônio cultural da Praça da Alfândega, Porto Alegre/RS.

Abstract

This study presents a look on the concept of social space (LEFEBVRE, 2013) and the applicability of the regressive-progressive method on analyzes on the theme of cultural inheritance of immaterial nature that composes a historical center through time. Using as theoretical reference the discussion on cultural inheritance and social space, the study seized and analyzed the social space of the place that originated the city – the Praça da Alfândega in Porto Alegre, where there is a delimitation of historical site of heritage nature. Using the three moments of the progressive-regressive method in search of informal activities still in place in the area and the lost relations with the riverbank, the natural environment modified by landfill throughout the growth of the urban center. In the horizontal description of the Praça (1st moment), based on the triad of perceived, conceived, and lived space, we found informal activities awaiting protection that according to the vertical historical analysis of the anthropic formation (landfills) of the area (2nd moment) remained present in the space throughout the years. Refreshing the understanding of social space and the condition of “space of heritage” (3rd moment), arises a set of specificities and permanencies pointing to the possible referents to social spaces as cultural inheritance of the Praça da Alfândega. The conclusions indicate the effectiveness of the analysis of the social space through the regressive-progressive method, which could subsidize the elaboration of a possible, Management Plan of the Historical Center.
