Etnografia da performance e agenciamento de uma charanga: estudo etnomusicológico sobre a Garra Xavante

Abstract

This dissertation discusses the performance and musical knowledge of the members of Garra Xavante, a brass band that plays in the games of Grêmio Esportivo Brasil team, in the city of Pelotas. This club has as one of its characteristic some significant portion supporters that are black and low-income people. In order to do so, this work enters the Black Pelotas, highlighting the black clubs, carnival, the religion of African matrix and cultural movements directed to blackness. From this on, soccer is contextualized, the insertion of black people in the sport and the removal low-income class people from the stadiums. As a member of Garra Xavante, the author's goal was to investigate and understand how the learning and musical knowledge of the brass band components were constituted, seeking to analyze who are the people who play this music and to identify the relationship between the brass band and the Black Pelotas. Our investigation lasts from 2018 to 2019 during the dispute of Gaucho Championship first division and Brazilian championship second division. The results presented here were obtained through an ethnographic research and ethnomusicological study, from sound narratives based on reports and audiovisual materials captured from contact with the brass band members. This research aimed to understand the dynamics of participation and sharing of knowledge and learning of the brass band members involved during the performances.
