Aval epistêmico e teísmo: o modelo de Alvin Plantinga da crença cristã avalizada.

Abstract

The following work intends to establish an investigation of Alvin Plantinga’s epistemological project, especially its application to his epistemology of religion, by examining the models proposed by the author to think about the warrant of theistic belief. By evaluating the epistemological models proposed by Plantinga through an investigation of its foundations and its application to theistic belief, which can offer both a comprehensive introductory way for the understanding of his epistemological project and a theoretical approach capable of being a critical analysis of his religious epistemology. Initially, we will investigate, in the first chapter, Plantinga's mature proposal of a theory of knowledge, the proper function model. Then, in the second chapter, we turn to the analysis of the proposed theistic models applied to the subjects of justification, rationality, and warrant of theistic belief in order to analyze whether theistic belief can actually be warranted according to the model. Finally, because the challenges that the facts of suffering and evil pose for theism, particularly Christian theism, we intend to analyze these fundamental themes on which Plantinga focuses on his philosophy of religion. Since the problem of evil is a strong candidate to be a defeater for theistic belief, in the third and final chapter of we will examine the problem of evil in order to investigate whether it constitutes a defeater of theistic belief and thus it became unwarranted, unjustified and irrational.
