Arquitetura urbana e inventário: São Lourenço do Sul.

Abstract

There have been a lot of discussions in the way of classifying and organizing the buildings heritage. Because of this, there are some changes taking place and the inventories have acquired a key role in this process. The first uses of such instrument date from the late eighteen century in France and it has followed the changes in concepts and values given to the heritage. Through out the time the inventories have evolved from simple registrations to instruments of protection and, more recently, instruments of managing and knowledge. The research aims to examine an inventory effectively applied that will be used as a tool to identify the architectural characteristics of a building. This study is based on the analysis of the information found on the records of registration of the inventory held in São Lourenço do Sul. Those records were collected in 2007 and where about 500 buildings are listed. Adopting a more recent view of knowledge and management, the treatment and interpretation of the data are seen as part of the methodology. The structure corresponds, in relation to registered buildings, to the reading of the landscape where they are inserted, their architecture and current state. It comes to reveal significant features of the urban area architecture, through the object itself, its relationship with the landscape and its present situation. It also allows the definition of priorities for conservation. As a study of the instrument itself, it allows the development of a methodological framework for further analysis.
