Abstract

The Capillary Transition Movement is presented in this research as the advent of a new political subject composed of women in Brazil during the last four years. They are above all black women who adhered to wearing their hair naturally curly, thus abandoning the use of chemical procedures that promise to deliver a hair that is smooth, silky and without volume. However, I question the breadth of the movement and who are the black adepts of the process. Moreover, I understand that the place where the person is situated is capable of assigning different meanings in different discourses. Therefore, this project emphasizes the way black women relate to their hair as an identity construct and focus on the discourses and experiences that run through different generations on the body and appearance.
