A construção negra da memória social do handebol no Brasil: reminiscências de agentes do campo esportivo maranhense do ginásio de desportos prof. Ronald Carvalho (São Luís-MA/1970 a 1980)

Abstract

This research sought to investigate the memory of black agents who witnessed handball at the Ronald da Silva Carvalho gym in São Luís (MA). This is a qualitative research with corpora anchored in the theoretical-methodological assumptions in the studies of Memory and Oral History. To be part of the sample, black agents must have experienced and witnessed handball in the gym at the Maranhense School Games (JEM) at a Ludovicense school between the 1970s and 1980s; having experienced some of the roles such as: coach, athlete, referee, manager, fans and in a different school from the other interviewees. Interviews were carried out, which were recorded and transcribed, with nine black individuals. The research products were systematized in three academic articles. In the first article, we seek, from the memory of the interior of the gymnasium, to identify black agents in different functions, school institutions and interpret the mechanisms of action and production of handball within the JEM in the structuring of the sports field of the games. The results indicate the reasons that led black agents to be selected to experience other local and national sporting events, their “productions” and events to meet the demands of handball in Maranhão. The second article The second article deals with the Physical Education Technician Course at the Federal Technical School of São Luís-MA/ETFMA (1970-1980). A course was identified aimed at black social agents from the Maranhão-JEM'S school games, who wished to work in the Maranhão professional sports field, but without the symbolic, social and economic capital required in local and non-local Higher Education Institutions-HEIs, revealing so much more about your time.The third article is the product of an investigation into the experiential memory of three black female handball athletes who experienced the genesis of the structuring of the sport in Maranhão and Brazil in the 1970s and 1980s. The results showed that the athletes were inserted in a similar way in handball, their habitus crossed in school sports initiation, in student teams and in local and national clubs, which faced tensions, separation from family and friends, racism and discrimination, adaptations to training, ridiculous salaries and great sporting success. It is noteworthy that black agents built an intergenerational legacy for current and future black athletes, which this study sought to highlight. It is concluded that epistemic violence and systematic black memoricide in the scientific and sporting field of Brazilian society appear as a constituent mark of the official social memory of handball in Maranhão. In view of this, research in the form of struggle is possible when it considers the objectives and priorities of a group marginalized by society. Finally, insurgent black intellectuals in their field of activity are called upon to combat the forgetting, silencing and erasure of black memory, the memorialicide of black people.
