O processo de patrimonialização do complexo Rheingantz: avanços e retrocessos

Abstract

This dissertation discusses the recognition process of the Rheingantz Factory as an industrial heritage of the textile sector. Of German origin, it was founded in 1873 in the city of Rio Grande, in Rio Grande do Sul. It stands out for its history and architecture, also is one of the few industrial remnants of the 19th century. The Factory became part of the historical and cultural heritage of the State in 2012 after its recognition as heritage by the Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage of the State of Rio Grande do Sul –IPHAE. The dissertation aimed to analyze the process of recognition of the Rheingantz, examining the actions and reasons that motivated it. In this effort, the stakeholders involved in the theme were identified, as well as their advances and setbacks over the 17 years that the process lasted. For this, the methodology was based on the analysis of all documentation of the heritage recognition process produced by IPHAE. Based on the document analysis, it was possible to understand the bureaucratic and legal procedures, including the movements and conflicts surrounding the Rheingantz recognition process. As a result of a project from the early 1990s, the heritage recognition process involved several stakeholders, facing some obstacles until it culminated in its implementation in 2012. The heritage defense, in short, overcame the speculation and bureaucracy of the process, and the Factory became a pioneer from its beginnings to its ruins.
